RimX 22LR Action
The RimX 22LR action is a great start to building your .22LR trainer rifle for practicing positional shooting with a .22LR. Often used by center fire competitive shooters in Precision Rifle Series or National Rifle League as a training rifle because of the high availability of short distance ranges. It has also triggered the massive increase in .22LR specific National Rifle League and Precision Rifle Series matches.
The RimX 22LR facilitates pre-fit barrels because of the extraction method. Basically the breech face of the barrel is conical allowing the RimX extractor to access the back side of the case to facilitate extraction.
One of the best .22LR actions available today on the market for using Remington 700 componenets (chassis and triggers).
Fit and finish are excellent.Pricey, but you get what you pay for.I would definitely recommend Bison Tactical, Fred was very helpful and answered any questions I had.
Best action on market for prs-mars matches!! Action came in on Thursday the build was done on Friday at noon shot mars championship match on Saturday and Sunday!! Never a problem!!
RimX 22LR Action
I've had two opportunities to use my new rifle in the short time I've owned it. Unfortunately, the action has terrible issues with failures to eject (the empty case winds up bouncing around inside the action, jamming everything up when the bolt runs forward). After I used it the first time (a sight-in session to get ready for a match) and it malfunctioned several times, I called Zermatt for help. The guy I talked to blamed ammo manufacturers for their minor variance in rim thicknesses. It seems like he was making excuses for what seems to be an engineering flaw as I own 15 other rimfires - all far less expensive - and each of them handle different brands of .22 ammo just fine. Zermatt sent me a couple of new bolt parts, which I installed, but it didn't fix anything and cost me first place in the match this weekend (I came in second - 4 points behind first - after the gun malfunctioned on every stage). I called Zermatt again today and they're sending me a replacement bolt head assembly. I really hope this works as I have $3000 into this rifle and I have zero faith in it right now.
Daniel,
Sorry to hear your having problems with ejection. 22LR is much more finicky than centerfire for certain. My experience with Zermatt is that they are extremely helpful with situations such as these, so glad your getting help there. Additionally I want to point out that I don't hear of this problem very often. When I have heard about it, it has been because of a chipped extractor - which can be caused by closing the bolt over a hand chambered round - which is strongly discouraged by Zermatt since it can cause a problem like you describe. Hopefully you get it resolved soon!
People are writing reviews in the magazines about Vudoo rifles when they are missing the mark by not covering the RimX rifle. A top quality receiver that you get to trick out and make into a custom rifle.
